Drive In Movie Outdoor Wedding

An intimate wedding can still have unique elements that wow your guests. This outdoor wedding inspiration in Boca Raton embraced one-of-a-kind details well thought out themes.

Forgoing the traditional tent, we chose this location off a private campus because of its secluded and shaded knoll. While any hot September day in South Florida can be unbearable, the trees lined the area for a cooling effect, while the festivities began after sunset, to truly allow the best features to shine (literally). The talented Sweet Memories Photography captured the details perfectly!

This Drive-In(to Love) wedding is the perfect inspiration for the bride who wants to wear her grandmother’s wedding gown, but still loves a contemporary approach… or the groom who sports a timeless James Bond tuxedo while still embracing modern elements. We opted to not have a traditional band or DJ, so we worked with an idea to play a romantic movie instead. The beloved 1954 film “Sabrina” played on the projector screen under a late Summer sky, Edison bulb strands from Events by CBK hung from the branches above. A play on the traditional parking lot drive-in movie, we instead brought the theater atmosphere to a park setting, which ultimately felt more intimate, romantic, and frankly comfortable!

The bride’s dress was a fit-like-a-glove Martina Liana gown with lace and pearl features in classic Audrey Hepburn style. The beaded illusion back dipped into a “V” for a super feminine touch. The light veil provided a soft balance to her shimmering gown. The bridal shoes continued the pearl theme, for an ultra-classic feel, while the heel height and peep-toe were a reminder of the modern touch.

The Vera Wang ring was from the Something Blue collection, featuring a tiny blue sapphire in the setting.

The groom wore a sleek and slim fit, classic black tuxedo. The peak lapel added an edginess, and the bow tie – pocket square combo kept everything timeless and neat.

Wanting to play off of the quintessential transparent film stock, translucent vellum invitations and menus complimented the theme. IBA Paper Goods combined the frosty vellum look with some vibrant colors, adding in some playful 1950s phrases on the RSVP card.

Atlas Event Rentals provided the furniture rentals for this outdoor wedding, creating a large royal table so that all guests were seated together. Custom vinyl chair decals adorned the clear ghost chairs with the bride and groom’s initials. A satin ivory linen was used to create the pearlescent undertones.  A custom table runner mimicked the floral hues for a vibrant statement piece on the otherwise simplistic tablescape. I chose the satin peach napkins for a pop of color against the equally wow-worthy Silver Wave chargers.

J Morgan Flowers provided a collection of bold floral arrangements. Balancing the traditional accents were pops of bold flowers in colors like fuchsia, peach, marigolds, ombre oranges, and greens. Pearl strands, swagged their way around each centerpiece. One element I was most excited about was the bride’s bouquet. For an extra “name in lights” surprise as the sun set, the bouquet lit up! It made a huge statement, and was achieved by intertwining fairy lights into the stems.

Our trio of altering-height cakes were custom designed by Two Fat Cookies with the dress in mind, resembling a timeline of eras: a tall sugar pearl banded cake topped with edible wafer flower for a more vintage feel, a 2-tier gem and piping fondant piece favored a lace look, and a modern silver trimmed ruffle marble cake echoing the colors of the flowers and linens. Popcorn-shaped colored meringues were packaged in individual silver striped boxes for guests to enjoy during the movie (an elegant take on popcorn at the movies). Star shaped sugar cookies and plated white chocolate bark with colored gems and sprinkles tied in the vivid hues of the wedding and were later plated for dessert.

Hints of old Hollywood were present through subtle details like a bulb makeup mirror personalized with the couple’s first dance song “La Vie en Rose” in vinyl. In a unique way to make their marriage truly “concrete” we channeled popular Los Angeles, and left handprints in cement as a memory of their wedding day. Not quite Grumman’s Chinese Theater, but much more doable for the couple to feature next to their front door walkway at home.

Guests gathered around the movie to wrap up their night under the stars. The projector screen was the perfect dually purposed entertainment piece throughout dinner and photo backdrop, tastefully letting guests know when “the end” of the night had come.
